Why Your PCM Effects Your Chrysler PT Cruiser's Fuel Inefficiency

By Paulino Carrins

Among all the reasons that can cause a car to fail, its computer system or PCM can just be one of them. If the PCM is found to be just fine, then one of its parts interrelated in function with the PCM must be found to have a problem. The most important component of a car that plays a vital role in its performance is your Chrysler PT Cruiser PCM or even computer which controls the amount of fuel used, air flowing into the engine and even the automatic transmission and shifting of these parts.

If you think you are dealing with a bad ECU you might be right. But there are many other things that could be wrong with a PT Cruiser other than the ECU, PCM or ECM as it goes by many different names depending on who you talk to.

If the car's computer does not perform well due to whatsoever reason, the car will generally not work right in terms of speed and even shifts. The part of the car which is specifically used to find out the amount of air flowing into the engine is known as the air flow sensor. The computer adjusts the level of fuel into the engine in order to increase or decrease the fuel mileage accordingly when it receives the information sent by the air flow sensor.

If this is the case with your PT Cruiser, you can expect to experience decreased performance which also leads to loss of money. An air flow sensor that is not working right will cause the computer to malfunction by sending it wrong information.

When this doesn't work right, you will experience decreased performance and this performance can cost you money in the long run. Because if your airs flow sensor isn't working right, it may tell the car's computer that you it needs to send more fuel than it really needs.

This also affects the car's fuel mileage. Due to the wrong mixture of the two substances, other parts of the car that risk damages is the engine which can premature as well as other external components such as the piston and also piston rings.

You can refer the owner's manual to find out which fuse goes to what. You can also check in the fuse box for this information. This is normally very easy to check because most fuses used on the Chrysler PT Cruiser are clear and you can see if it's blown or not just by looking.

Lastly, the PCM software that runs in the computer of the car can also malfunction either due to corrupted files or accidental reset of the computer system with the latter occurring as a result of pulling the fuse. You should see your car dealer for repair of the program which might be reloaded.
