Using Equipment Trailers To Move Your Stuff

By Maria D. Berre

Equipment trailers are versatile and low-cost ways to haul large items. Common use of these haulers is to transport cars and other vehicles around. That is not the one possible use of these particular trailers though. Aside from that, any object can be transported this way. Equipment haulers are not as expensive than either a truck or a van, as well as being easy and convenient to work with. Even such things as farm stock, pipes, or lumber can be readily hauled on them.

Vehicles are only one of many things that can be used with an equipment trailers. They are often used when moving to haul furniture for example. Whether it's loose items or large bulky boxes, they can handle carrying most anything. In the event that you should decide to share loose items it is important to invest in a cover. A basic tarp or canvas wrapped over and tied on will work for most cases. Smaller items may have to be put in boxes as they can slip out.

It is not unknown to use these trailers for hauling cars around. That is to say, they are a makeshift tow truck. Tow trucks have a couple of disadvantages though. Older styles of tow trucks commonly rely on putting a hook under the car that may cause damage. On a trailer, the car is instead carried on the flat bed avoiding most potential problems. These trailers usually provide a ramp to allow items to be rolled on. Sedans or other vehicles can essentially drive up the slope onto the back of the trailer. Don't neglect to properly secure the vehicle and the pivot in place!

Equipment towing beds are often built to carry a few large items on their back. Some of them have no walls on the sides to help enclose, and thus, protect items being towed. This allows much more adaptability. Many more types of objects and equipment can ride on the bed of a trailer with low walls. When filling up the bed it is important to secure the payload with bindings and covers. Solutions, such as ropes and tarps to bind them down and protect them from the weather usually suffice for this purpose.

It is good to invest in a flexible tower, such as equipment trailers and car haulers. They let owners carry around plenty of things not possible with a normal car or truck. Large varieties of stuff and piles of boxes will readily fit on the bed. They can act as car, truck, and ATV haulers in a pinch, which certainly don't fit inside a van. The only restriction is that they need a vehicle up front with enough towing capacity.
