Replacing Your Dodge Caravan PCM Can Fix Numerous Problems

By Granderson Elliot

The power train control module that you find on your car is the brain of the engine. This electronic unit controls many functions of the car from the fuel system all the way to the gears in the transmission. Without it, your car would not run as efficiently. Also, Grand Caravan ECM contains software and circuits that can be changed to fit your needs whether it be for towing or just long distance driving on the open highway.

A car, say for example, the Dodge Caravan, will not function without a car computer and by that; I mean the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) or also commonly known as (ECU) Engine Control Unit. These devices are built to be durable and last a long time but in some occasions, they stop working. One does not need to jump in the conclusion of replacing these devices immediately because there are techniques that can solve the problem. Occasionally, a sensor, which relays information to the car computer, that is busted is the cause of the problem.

If the systems in your van, car or truck do not work correctly then your PCU will not the information it needs to make the other parts of your car work together correctly. It may not send enough fuel to the engine, it may not know how much air is being taken in or a host of other factors. In some extreme cases, it's possible your vehicle will not start or appear to be completely dead.

If there is a problem with the sensors, little or no information will be sent to the computer. This will most likely result to car trouble (e.g. car stops functioning) because the computer was not able to analyze how much fuel it has to release to the engine for the car to be able to maintain its proper speed.

Wastage of money is always possible in relation to these problems because of gas wastage and as we know, gas equates to expense. Consumers often blame the car's PCM when they encounter these problems. Most of the time, it usually is but consumers should remember that it is NOT always the case. Before ordering a new Dodge Grand Caravan PCM online, it is still best to check the overall condition of the car parts.

The computer will then send the correct amount of fuel that will be added to the engine in congruence with the volume of air. Problems occur when the sensors won't work properly and the computer does not send the accurate amount of fuel to the engine.

Checking your cars fuse box should always be one of the first steps when trying to figure out if your PCM has gone bad. Inside your Grand Caravan's operator's manual you should be able to find a diagram of fuses and what electronic component they are for. Also, sometimes the cover to the fuse box will have this diagram.

So before running out or looking online you may also want to take it to your automotive expert and determine what is exactly wrong. Sometimes if you just re-flash the computer you can fix the problem. Also resetting your car computer will help. To do that just completely unhook your battery for several minutes, this will usually make your ECM reset, kind of like a reboot on a computer in your house. This usually helps in most cases and it's something easy for you to do.
