Here is our guide to apply a vehicle wrap or graphic. This is designed to be a rough guide to show you what is involved however extra steps should be taken when actually applying the wrap/graphic and advice should be taken from a professional for your first job.
Make sure you don't overstretch the graphics or wrapping because it won't apply and will start to come loose after a short amount of time.
1.You have to clean every surface. Not just the one you are to apply to as a slight breeze will move dirt from a nearby area to your cleaned surface. It cannot be stressed enough that keeping the vehicle clean is massively important.
2. Apply a liberal amount of primer especially in groves where sticking maybe difficult.
3. Remove any extra styling that the vehicle has. You don't want to be working around things like wiper blades and spoilers.
4. Make sure you use a good masking tape to tape up. There is a new water/paint resistant tape on the market and it is great. Make sure you have quick run without the graphic backing taken off to make sure everything fits.
5. Use a proper squeegee. Don't use anything other than a purpose designed squeegee, using anything else will drive you mad and put you off doing the job. There are no shortcuts with this one.
6. Spend a good amount of time cutting the edges of the film for the perfect finish. It is tempting to rush here to get finished but it is crucial to get each cut spot on.
7. If you are going to tint the windows a different colour now is the time to do it, while the seals and trims are removed and when you're done use a decent high quality Edge Sealer to get a proper finish.
8. Replace the vehicle body elements you had removed before the vinyl installation. Wipe the vehicle wrap clean of any marks and remove any masking tape that may have been left during application.
9. Leave your vehicle for a day or two before driving it or cleaning it. Rushing out down the motorway when the vehicle has just been wrapped will do it no good at all.
10. The final step is really about after care. The first time you want to clean make you do it gently with warm soapy water. It is advisable not to take the vehicle to any commercial car washes as pressure washers could cause damage.
Follow the above instructions and you won't go far wrong. Vehicle wrapping is hard, it takes time skill and practice. It is advisable to get some advice or even watch someone else wrap or apply graphics before you give it your first go! Good luck!
