Next summer, the 2014 Chevy Spark Electric Automobile will strike dealerships in California. While General Motors has kept news of the Spark EV's range under wraps, GM claims that the urban people-mover will have "a lot of pep in a tiny bundle," reports The Detroit News. Obviously, it remains to be seen if that will translate into the public adopting electric automobiles to a higher capacity.
Not your average vehicle
The General Motors program manager of the Spark EV Mike Lelli is very anxious about the 2014 model. He believes the vehicle will be outstanding.
"We'll be very competitive," he said. "Everybody's going to be pleasantly surprised with our range. It'll be very, very nice."
If you are going to pick an electric car, the 2014 Chevy Spark EV is probably something to consider. The vehicle may not be able to go a very long distance on the road, but it can go from 0 to 60 in eight seconds and pass some automobiles. The electric version of the vehicle improves hp by 55 percent from the gasoline version. It can get 130 hp and produces 400 foot-pounds of torque, according to Chevy. You can fit easily with four adults, and the vehicle will take you everywhere you have to go.
The electric version is much better than the gas version that takes 12 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph.
Have fun while driving
In a road test on a straight roadway of even elevation, the Chevy Spark EV went from zero to 40 mph in just seconds, according to a company representative.
"This car is really, really fun to drive," said GM Senior Vice President of Product Development Mary Barra during a satellite interview with Detroit automotive media. "The acceleration is brisk, the handling is tight and of course it doesn't use a drop of gasoline."
When in contrast to the plug-in, extended-range Chevy Volt, the Chevy Spark EV is 160 pounds heavier and has more power in the battery. It gets 20 kilowatt hours of energy in four power modules over 336 prismatic cells, which is pretty good.
Showing up in LA
General Motors plans to build 500,000 of the Chevy Spark EVs before 2017 after introducing the 2014 model at the LA Auto Show. General Motors plans to continue to put cash into producing new EVs with eAssist technology, according to Barra.
The Spark EV will initially be sold in California and South Korea, where it is produced. While a price has not yet been set, it is expected that it will be significantly more expensive than the $12,995 gas-powered version of the Spark. Most customers will be seeking auto loan information, no doubt.
