Koenigsegg sets world speed record with Agera R

By Cornelius Nunev

Cleaning the smile off Bugatti's face is a lofty, but commonly held, goal among a large amount of supercar manufacturers these days. The Koenigsegg Agera R might just do the trick, as the amazingly powerful car from the Swedish firm has just grabbed some records.

Power is the key

You may need only 30 seconds to pour your coffee, fix it up the way you like it and even start blowing on it. That, as reported by Auto Week, is about how long it takes the Koenigsegg Agera R to go from 0 to 200 miles per hour and back to 0.

Had Guinness make it official

The Swedish supercar recently set six Guinness records for a twoseat production automobile. In 24.96 seconds, the Agera R can go 0 to 200 to 0 mph. This can be a new record. In 17.68 seconds, the automobile can go from 0 to 200 miles per hour. Automobile Magazine reports that the automobile can go 0 to 300 kilometers per hour, or to 186 miles per hour, in 14.53 seconds, which is another record.

The car also holds records for going from 0 to 300 kph to 0, which it did in 21.19 seconds, and from going 300 kph to 0 and 200 mph to 0 in 6.66 seconds and 7.28 seconds, respectively.

Attempting to beat the big record still

There is still one record that hasn't been beat. This is the top speed. Top Speed reports that the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport has the record at 267.85 mph. There are some cars that could well top the record set by the 1,200horsepower beast that was unleashed by Volkswagen's subsidiary.

With 1,100 horsepower, the twinturbo 5.0liter V8 might engine in the Agera R can be able to beat the score as it supposedly can go up to 275 miles per hour.

The Yanks are coming

There are two small firms in America that are doing very well. In fact, they might be the ones to beat Bugatti. The record could be beat by the Hennessey Venom GT Spyder. It has a lot of power, according to Automobile Magazine. The Venom, a modified Lotus Elise, has a 6.2liter LS9 engine, the V8 in the Corvette ZR1. The LS9 gets over 600 horsepower with the Corvette ZR1, though there is 1,200 horsepower in the Venom GT Spyder. It is a convertible as well. According to Hennessey, it can go very fast. It might even go 275 mph.

The upcoming Tuatara by Shelby Super Automobiles is also a contender, according to Top Speed. The SCC Ultimate Aero took Bugatti's spot for top speed against the original Veyron at Shelby Super Vehicles. With 1,250 horsepower, there is 6.8liter, V8 motor in the vehicle. The vehicle has not been entirely produced yet. That means it does not have any records.

Bugatti's CEO is Wolfgang Durheimer. He said that the company will "strike back" if any person beats its record.
