How To Dress Up For The Office

By Melvin Hernandez

Let us face it, not everybody is gifted with the talent to dress up. The risk of being overdressed and underdressed is always a problem for most of us. In fact, even fashionistas have the problem of conforming to the office's dress code while being fashionable as well. On the contrary, others go for comfortable clothes that they no longer adhere to the dress code. Here are few tips that might help you with your dress-related concerns.

Observing and assessing the office is one way to evaluate the formalness or casualness of your office. Pattern your clothes to what your superiors and colleagues are wearing. By doing this, you will unlikely overdress or undress in your workplace.

Don't take risks and stick to the office dress code. If the office dress code is corporate casual, stick to it. Some go way too far. For instance, if the office allows you to wear jeans to work, make sure they are proper pants, not one that has been ripped to shreds. Decency is expected from you, especially in the workplace. Colour choice is significant as well. Choose subtle shades over loud colours. Faint shades make you look more professional.

Don't compromise your comfort, after all, the more relaxed you are the more productive you become. Do not wear exactly what your supervisor is wearing if you are not at ease in doing so. What you should do is find something similar that you are comfortable wearing. For instance, don't wear heels just because your superior wears them, especially if your job involves you on your feet for long periods of time. Instead wear flats that adhere to the policies of the dress code.

Lastly, keep your face and head looking right. Males, get a proper haircut. Ladies, choose a hairstyle that is appropriate for the office. Make up is a must but do not make it too heavy. Tone down your perfume as well.
